So far the novel is about a older woman named Miss Marple who is one of Agatha Christie's famous detectives along with Hercules Poirot. Her story starts off by describing Miss Marple's longing to tend to her garden more. And the theme of new v. old emerges as "The Development" is changing the world around her with new house and she addresses this by discussing the characteristics of her neighbors and friends. For example, whenever Miss Marple refers to something new, Cherry Baker comes into the conservation 'she was one of the detachment of young wives who shopped at the supermarket and wheeled prams about the quiet streets of St. Mary Mead.' Mrs.Bantry is invited to the house that is now owned by a famous director and actress (Jason Rudd and Marina Gregg) and later on only a selected few are allowed to attended a party held here.
